Special Educational Needs (SEND)

Providing for children with SEND is the responsibility of every adult at Thirsk Community Primary School. However, the adult with named responsibility for SEND is our SENCo Miss. A. Scholes. She can be contacted on the school telephone number 01845 524349 or by emailing senco@thirsk-pri.n-yorks.sch.uk

Miss. Scholes champions the needs of children with learning, medical or physical difficulties. She is a member of the School Leadership Team (SLT) and represents the view of the parents and children, who fit within the SEND category. This ensures that the voice of these, often vulnerable pupils, is front and centre of our decision making. Miss Scholes also works alongside Mrs. Kennedy who is our Safeguarding, Inclusion and Pastoral Manager, who is also a member of our School Leadership Team (SLT).

Information Report

The SEN information report covers our provision and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The information we include is set out in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 Schedule 1.

SEND – Local Offer

All North Yorkshire maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND.)   They are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, whatever their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.   The Local Authority publishes its Local Offer which provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place.
